We are now working in conjunction with colleagues in Community Pharmacy and at DGRI to provide a weekly drug supply issues update. It is hoped that by doing this we will reduce the number of incidences of patients arriving at a Community Pharmacy with a prescription for a medicine that is currently in short supply and having to be referred back their GP for an alternative.
To ensure this list is as comprehensive as possible we are urging prescribers and community pharmacists to contact us regarding any supply issues they are experiencing. These issues will then be investigated and we will publish details of the nature of the shortage and how long it is expected to last.
The site has been created to act as a central resource for all local drug advice as approved by Dumfries & Galloway Health Boards' Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee.
The ready access to prescribing information will support the safe and cost effective use of drugs in Dumfries & Galloway.
At present we spend £49million on drugs annually; it is therefore imperative that we maximise the health benefits from this investment for the people of Dumfries & Galloway through the use of evidence based medicine.
